Dear ,

I'm writing from Save the Children's local coordination office in Uttarakhand and have been based here as part of the team coordinating Save the Children's response to the floods.

The media attention has shifted from the Uttarakhand tragedy to other issues, but my team is still working tirelessly, braving all odds to help devastation-struck households, especially children and women.

So far, Save the Children has provided immediate relief material to nearly 10,000 people till date in the worst-affected districts of Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi. This comprised of hygiene kits, sanitation kit, food baskets (uncooked food that will not spoil easily), woollen blankets and tarpaulin sheets.

To address medical concerns in the villages worst-affected by the floods, Save the Children sent out a team of doctors. The first health camp was conducted on July 17 in Kursil, Uttarkashi.

The floods have caused major disruptions to road connectivity, making it impossible for villagers in far-flung areas to reach hospitals. Hence, the health camps have proved to be vital in providing timely medical support to women and children. Our health camps have covered over 1,039 people in 14 villages of Uttarkashi district.

One of our emergency interventions is to set up Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) to provide children a safe and protected environment.

With the aid of games, books, music and dance, children are engaged to give them some sense of normalcy in the CFS and to help them overcome the trauma of the disaster. Three CFS have already been set-up in 3 different villages namely Kursil, Phooldaar & Syallabh so far. In the coming months, we will have 40 such Child Friendly Centres across the region.

We need to urgently ensure that we are able to reach as many children and families as possible. Our goal is to distribute relief materials to over 3000 households and water purification sachets and supplementary nutrition to young children. To achieve all these goals your support is crucial.

We know what it takes to respond to such disasters, but we cannot do this without your help. The crisis in Uttarakhand is not over and we need your support today to help us to rebuild lives
